Open Communication: The Foundation of Successful Business
One of the biggest challenges in the workplace is not the work itself, but how you communicate with your work colleague. Open communication is what we in Kalman always strive for. Communication affects all aspects of the work, from the most simple things to the more complicated parts.
Employees depart for a variety of reasons, according to studies. One of the most common reasons is a poisonous work environment. Employees most commonly described toxic culture at their workplace as a failure to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion; workers feeling disrespected; unethical behavior or low integrity; abusive managers; and a cutthroat environment where they felt colleagues were actively undermining them, according to MIT Sloan Management Review.
Poor communication has real-world effects in the workplace. Employees lack direction without clear and consistent communication, production decreases, employee engagement drops, and conflict emerges.
Communication is a constant effort to make, just like what you do with your loved ones. It includes all the things happening beyond the scope of work like constructive feedback, appreciation, the opportunity to learn from each other. This brings up a positive environment where everyone can learn to be assertive and respectful towards each other.
Listening to what each other’s needs is equally important. Without the ability to listen, communication is not effective. It only goes one way, not both ways. This kind of communication doesn’t gain anything but reluctance and compulsion. However, if each of the team members is able to communicate openly and listen to each other, trust increases and the relationship grows stronger.
With open communication, leaders are receptive to receiving information that can help them tackle issues that prevent the team from reaching its full potential. Making sure the team understands the role they are playing will lead everyone to be on the same page, moving in the same direction toward the same goal.
